Meet LaReina
My journey to becoming a midwife started in 2007 when a family member asked me to attend her at her homebirth. This first experience sparked my passion for supporting women and families in these sacred moments of new life.
In 2011, I trained through DONA International and became a certified doula. This only fueled my passion for birth, all aspects of childbearing, and supporting families on the journey through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. The following year, I enrolled in the National College of Midwifery to pursue professional midwifery. Over the next 5 years, I attended over 75 births as a midwife in training. I apprenticed with 3 different midwives, attending births in homes and birth centers, cultivating the skills and experience I needed to be a competent care provider. In 2017, I completed my apprenticeships and graduated, then became a Certified Professional Midwife and Licensed Midwife in the state of California.
My personal birth experience includes 4 homebirths of my own, attended by both midwives and doulas. Each of my own births were so different—easy and slow, long and hard, quick and intense—and they have helped prepare me to support families in their own unique experiences. I’ve always wanted to have a beautiful waterbirth, but have always held true to my element earth, and needed solid ground under me when I birth my babies! I’ve experienced the beautiful tailored care a midwife provides, and I eagerly hope to pass that same care on to the families I serve.
In my personal life, I’m a follower of Jesus Christ, happily married to my best friend, and enjoy spending time with my very large immediate family. I also enjoy fellowshipping with my church family, camping, hiking, horseback riding, and exploring health and healing through whole foods.
